Carved Mirror, XVIII Century (SOLD)
A NORTHERN EUROPEAN CHIP CARVED MIRROR, 18TH CENTURY
A highly unusual 18th century mirror, with shaped pediment centred by a crown crest and coat of arms of three lozenges and chevron.
The intricately carved trailing fruiting vines, leafy flower heads and lunettes are all expertly carved, painted and positioned to create a unique naturalistic effect.
Judging by the family crest, this mirror would presumably been a 'one off ' commission for a noble family in the late 18th century, in remarkable condition throughout, centered by the original sparkly mercury glass plate.
Height: 138cm
Width: 90cm
Depth: 4cm
