Terracotta Sundial , c.1850 (SOLD)A fine 19th century terracotta garden sundial attributable to Mark Henry Blanchard of column form, the shaft decorated with sinuous scrolling fruiting ivy vines, above a bold acanthus and palmette lower border, on foliate sole and shallow square plinth base, the bronze sundial, with scrolled pierced gnomon and engraved dial plate.
Blanchard was one of Britain's leading manufacturers of terracotta during the 19th century. Following an apprenticeship at the Eleanor Coade factory, Mark Henry Blanchard established his own business in Blackfriar's Road, Lambeth in circa 1840.
